That's how it starts You sit out in the water Waiding for hours Waiting for waves Most of the time That answer isn’t coming Some of the times Your wrapped up ain't it swell But its alright Its alright But its alright Cause I’m just taking my time How does this begin Feel I’ve been out here for ages Waiting for change Anything Life pick me up And i will go straight out to bravery I want safeties not certain In something not new But I’m alright I’m alright I’m alright Cause I’m just taking my time Until I’m looking back into a heart attack Im in too deep no coming back I'll just beat my chest to the coming storm and ride it on home Yea How does this end Bound to bound for ever Bound to be swimming round in circles Bitter end I do not believe Were all wasted here on nothing Not guna just singing another song And just wait for change But I’m alright I’m alright I’m alright I’m alright Yes I’m alright Though at times i must fight But something just seems right When I’m taking my time

When the surfs up We can get down Take my convertible car To the next town Although were peaking Nothing to shout about Riding 10ft till I’m 6 feet in the ground Hanging ten on the weekend Living our dreams day to day no reason to pretend Pacific blue under caribbean sun light n n And white washed through the pipeline In the sure-fire sunshine Thats what I want The perfect destination Thats what i need A little disconnection In Mentawai Tavarua Costa rica North of Maley San Diego Surigao Island Montañita Port Otago You could be a waiter waiting On a big break stayed all stayed in Take my advice Take a chance on your life And fall asleep beneath the palm tree every night Thats what i want Everything just slows down Thats what i need Life long vacation in Mentawai Tavarua Costa rica North of Maley San Diego Surigao Island Montañita Port Otago No occupation occupies my dreams I fall asleep at night Feeling the pull of the tide I'll drift away and see the sea that i need Wake to a cityscape, stuck in a daly haze Wishing away the light, for I’m dreaming every night of Mentawai Tavarua Costa rica North of Maley San Diego Surigao Island Montañita Port Otago Mentawai Tavarua Costa rica North of Maley San Diego Surigao Island Montañita Port Otago

When sun will rise Take my board down to the water Hear the song of the sea Feel high energy Face my heartache Out to the water Hear the song of the sea There are lunar rotations That make wave formations It's the sound Of the sea You wanna do something better for the season Just leave the city watch the waves still breathing Theres an open road with an open and a world outside you know You wanna do some thing new for how your feeling Just lay your weight upon the war your wading Trust the salt sea air and you’ll hear the ocean share The water that brings me home Is the same that clears my throat Pushes us across the sea With such high velocity There are lunar rotations That make wave formations It's the sound Of the sea Just need to do something for your heart thats healing Head to the ocean let the symphony just seep in In the salt sea you'll be hearing anything clear And with that sound your lungs are screaming Creating waves like the ones your hearing In the cosmic air is a language that we share The water that brings me home Is the same that clears my throat Pushes me across the sea With such high velocity There are lunar rotations that make wave formations It's the sound of the sea The water rushing round our home Is flowing through this microphone Sending me across the sea With seismic systematic gravity But there are human creations that make wave formations It's the sound When sun will rise Take my board down to the water Hear the song of the sea Feel high energy Face my heartache Out to the water Hear the song of the sea

about

Surf's Up is the second EP from Irish songwriter/producer Aonair. Surfs Up combines lush vocal harmony, huge analog delays, reverbs and 80s synth sounds to create a sense of nostalgic freedom. "I made this EP about surfing because I don't surf, but I wanted to. I was drawn to the lifestyle surrounding surfers, their freedom and connection with nature. So I thought if I write about it then I'd have to go experience it and learn about it, so that's what i did. This is why making music is so powerful. You can take one thing you love and use it to enable you to experience things you never have before. It's the perfect catalyst.

“Sonically I wanted this EP to be a collaboration between myself and the sea. I used a lot of different samples that I took while at the beach. In the production process I wanted to recreate the ocean sounds, not only by using samples but by drawing direct inspiration from the ocean and how it sounds, moves and feels. I did this by using rich arpeggiated synth sounds, layered vocal harmony and lush deep reverbs.”

“Conceptually the EP began with surfing, but ended up being more about escapism, freedom and finding a deeper connection with nature. These concepts were inspired while learning how to surf during the writing process. “When you catch a wave it is an incredible feeling. It's as close as we can get to becoming part of something completely uncontrollable, moving in sync with nature and for every second you are riding the wave, you are letting go of everything else, you must live for that single moment. I think all great music makes you feel the same way, so putting these together made a lot of sense for me.”

“For Surf’s Up, I wanted to take a departure from the lo-fi vibe of the first EP (Girls, Girls, Girls). I knew these songs wouldn’t translate the way they do if I’d done them all by myself in my little home studio. I enlisted the help of talented friends and producers to help me realise these songs fully, but still retain the Aonair sound and character. This EP was a real trial for me to create, I was ambitious with the sounds but still had no label to back the recording process. I worked in a cafe in Dublin and saved every penny for surf trips and recording sessions. Many unlucky studio mistakes, many frustrating nights trying to edit ocean samples, many many re-recorded drum parts, guitar parts and vocals. It was a rough ride, but one that ultimately has made me better as a producer.

“Life as an independent artist in the modern music industry is an interesting one, we must produce music to a quality that is universally acceptable and that can be upheld with most label releases despite having no money to produce any of it. To make music of this quality requires the sweat blood and tears of everyone involved, and that’s what I’ve poured into this EP. I feel all my friends are just as relieved this EP is finished as I am. At the same time, I can’t wait to do it all over again for whatever is next, and that is why music is so incredible. So I hope you enjoy the sweat, blood, tears, waves and good vibes. “
