about

Aonair’s Hope You Feel it is the first release from a new body of work recorded in 2019. These tracks were recorded in studios in London, Berlin and Dublin. Hope You Feel it is a slowly swelling-Electro Pop track with broad influences from Grimes, War On Drugs to Tame Impala. Hope You feel it is a song about a change. That moment where affection turns to something greater and the uncertainty of reciprocation. It's a love story but has a deeper meaning of inner doubt and the uncertainty of the future. I was living in Germany, wondering if it was for me, wondering if it was the right place to make a new life. Hoping at some point that I'd feel it was. This delicate but powerful emotion is mirrored in the tracks production.

“The track began as part of a writing exercise last year, I wrote and recorded a song every day for a month. It taught me the value of good ideas and how to let go of bad ones. I found that thirty potential ideas has more value than obsessively refining one idea. It also made me take risks as a producer, recording in the same way every day for a week quickly gets old. This song came from a field recording of a Berlin park. In the original demo I just sang the chorus over the voice memo recording and played a soft synth. When the month was over I returned to the track and fleshed it out, I left the original park recording over the bridge.”

The synth sounds where influned by 80s synth bands like Suicide, Tears For Fears, Flock of Seagulls as well as current bands like Ariel Pink, Conan Mockasin and Alvvays.

“I wanted to modernise that 80s synth sound with the power and dynamics of modern production and processing. Using the heavy bass synth sounds and huge drums samples was my way of giving those nostalgic washy keys some power.”

Aonair is the moniker of producer Brendan McGlynn (Formerly Thumper, Raglans, Colour//Sound). After two self produced EP’s and numerous collaborations with various artists, Brendan’s experience in multiple genres has influenced a significant change in attitude.

“For the new tracks this year, I just wanted to push myself as much as possible. I wanted to achieve something I was really proud of but also challenge my own abilities as an engineer and writer. As a solo artist it’s hard to not get caught in the sea of artistic doubt, being a hermit in the studio and the obsessive nature of self-produced music. But I feel I’ve struck a sweet spot with these new tracks.”

2020 will see a lot of new material from Aonair as well as festival dates and gigs throughout the year.

lyrics

Waking to you
In the morning
Heart on my sleeve
Head in the clouds

Thinking of You

Make my day
Say my name
And no we can't explain
I just hope you feel it

Walking around
(Head in a daze)
Hating this town
Didn't you know that
Didn't you know that

When the time has come
I don't really wanna go

When the time has come
I don't really wanna go
I don't really wanna go
Without you
